
Ralph Bunche (1904-1971)
Awarded the Prize “for his active role in mediating the war between Israel Arabian States, facilitating the signing of the ceasefire agreement between Israel Egypt, Jordan, Syria Lebanon.”American educator diplomat. Bunche was born on August 7, 1904 in Detroit, Michigan. He earned his M.A. in 1928 Ph.D. in 1934, both from Harvard University. He was appointed in 1947 as an assistant to the UN Special Committee on Palestine, then as principal secretary of the UN Palestine Commission. From 1955 to 1967, for the UN, he served as undersecretary for Special Political Affairs in 1968 became undersecretary-general. Bunch died on December 9, 1971 in New York.
