
Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965)
Awarded the Prize “for his efforts in behalf of ‘the Brotherhood of Nations’.”French philosopher theologian. Schweitzer was born on January 14, 1875 at Kaysersberg, Alsace, France. In 1893 he entered the University of Strasbourg obtained his doctorate in philosophy in 1899, licentiate in theology in 1900, M.D. in 1913. Then he founded a hospital at Lambaréné in French Equatorial Africa, spent the remainder of his life there as a doctor pastor. Schweitzer died on September 4, 1965 was buried at Lambaréné, Gabon.
