George Catlett Marshall (1880-1959)

Awarded the Prize “for his contribution to the economic recovery in Europe after the Second World War, his effort in promoting brotherhood among nations.”

American general of the army statesman. Marshall was born on December 31, 1880 at Uniontown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1901, from the Infantry-Cavalry School at Fort Leavenworth in 1907 from the Army Staff College in 1908. Marshall died in 1939, he was named chief of staff, with the rank of general became general of five-star rank of the army in 1944. In late 1945 in 1946, he was a special mission to China. In 1947, he became secretary of state. Marshall died on October 16, 1959 in Washington.
