Lester Bowles Pearson (1897-1972)

Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his contribution as a mediator during the Suez crisis.”

Canadian politician. Pearson was born on April 23, 1897 in Toronto, Canada. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Toronto in 1919. In 1923 he took his Master of Arts degree at Oxford University. He joined the Canadian foreign service in 1928 became first secretary in the Department of External Affairs. He was elected as prime Minister in 1963. Pearson died on December 27, 1972 at Ottawa.
