
Albert John Lutuli (1898-1967)
Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his nonviolent struggle against racial discrimination.”South African politician. Lutuli was born in 1898 in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). He completed a teacher’s course at Methodist Institution at Edendale the Higher Teachers’ Training Course at Adams College. In 1944 he joined the African National Congress, in 1952 he was elected president-general of ANC. Lutuli died on July 21, 1967 at Stanger, South Africa.
