Linus Carl Pauling (1901-1994)

Awarded the Prize for “he ever since 1946 has campaigned ceaselessly, not only against nuclear weapons tests, not only against the spread of these armaments, not only against their very use, but against all warfare as a means of solving international conflicts.”

American chemist. Pauling was born on February 28, 1901 in Portl, Oregon. He received his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State College in 1922, his doctorate from the California Institute of Technology in 1925. From 1927 until 1964, he was a professor of CIT. Later he was chairman of the Division of Chemistry Chemical Engineering, as well as director of the Gates Crellin Laboratories of Chemistry. From 1963 to 1967, he joined Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions in California; from 1967 to 1969, he was a professor at the University of California at San Diego; in 1969 he became a professor at Stanford. He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 1954. Paul
