
League of Red Cross Societies (1919- )
Awarded the Prize “for that the work of the League is so closely coordinated with that of the Committee that to all practical purposes they form a unity, in many fields they work h in h with the United Nations. The great worldwide humanitarian work of the League falls outside the sphere of the Peace Prize, but the cooperation between the Red Cross Societies of ninety different ries of different races, creeds, color is of very real importance for international understing peace.”League of Red Cross Societies was formed in 1919. (It became League of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies in 1983 International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies in 1991). Its programmes are: promoting humanitarian principles values; disaster response; disaster preparedness; health care in the community being responsible for encouraging the formation of aiding national Red Cross Red Crescent societies.
