Norman E. Borlaug (1914-2009)
Awarded the Prize “for his help to provide bread for a hungry world by a ground work - the Green Revolution, so that we can hope that providing bread will also give the world peace.”American agricultural scientist. Borlaug was born on March 25, 1914 at Cresco, Iowa. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1937 from the University of Minnesota, where he received the doctorate in plant pathology in 1942. He was the vice-president of Inter-American Crops Program of Rockfeller Foundation the head of International Wheat Improvement Program in the International Maize Wheat Movement Center (CIMMYT) in Mexico City. Moreover, he worked as the vice-chairman of World Population Crisis Commission in 1971. Borlaug died on September 12, 2009 in Dallas, Texas.
