Le Duc Tho (1911-1990)

Awarded the Prize “in recognition of his success as one of the two chief negotiators in arranging the ceasefire after negotiating for nearly four years.”

Vietnamese statesman. Le Duc Tho was born on October 14, 1911 in Nam Ha province, Vietnam. He was one of the founders of the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930. From 1955 he was a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam. During the Vietnam War (1955-1975) he carried out most of his duties while in hiding in South Vietnam. Le Duc Tho did not accept the Nobel Prize. He said that he would possibly accept it when the Paris Agreement was carried out, the battle field became silent the peace really came to the South. Le Duc Tho died on October 13, 1990 at Hanoi.
