Seán MacBride (1904-1988)
Awarded the Prize “for his efforts in advocacy of international peace, human right disarmament, his contribution to the liberation of Namibia from South Africa.”Irish politician. MacBride was born on January 6, 1904 in Paris. He was educated at the National University of Irel. During 1948-1951, he was Vice-President of the Organization for European Economic Co-operation. In 1961 he was elected Chairman of Amnesty International. From 1963 to 1971 he was Secretary General, of International Commission of Jurists. From 1968 he was President of International Peace Bureau Chairman of Special Committee of International Non-Governmental Organizations on Human Rights (Geneva). MacBride died on January 15, 1988 in Dublin, Irel.
