International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, IPPNW (1980- )
Awarded the Prize “for its considerable services to mankind by spreading authoritative information by creating an awareness of the catastrophic consequences of atomic warfare.”Founded in 1980, the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War is a non-partisan global federation of medical organizations dedicated to research, education, advocacy relevant to the prevention of nuclear war. To this end, IPPNW seeks to prevent all wars, to promote non-violent conflict resolution, to minimize the effects of war preparations for war on health, development the environment. Today IPPNW continues to unite people across political divides to prevent nuclear war by abolishing nuclear weapons, to ban lmines, to stop the scourge of small arms light weapons.
