Oscar Arias Sanchez (1940- )
Awarded the Prize “for he is the main architect of the peace plan, made an outsting contribution to the possible return of stability peace to a region long torn by strife civil war.”Costa Rican statesman. Sanchez was born on September 13, 1940 at Heredia, Costa Rica. He studied economics at the University of Costa Rica earned a Ph.D. from the University of Essex in Engl. In 1972 he was appointed minister of planning. He was elected secretary-general of the National Liberation Party in 1979, in 1986 he won the general election to become president of Costa Rica.
