Awarded the Prize “for The Peace-keeping Forces of the United Nations have, under extremely difficult conditions, contributed to reducing tensions where an armistice has been negotiated but a peace treaty has yet to be established.”An international forces founded in 1948 by the authority of the United Nations Security Council to help establish or maintain peace in areas of armed conflict. The guidelines for future employment of peacekeeping forces were outlined as: firstly, permission of all disputing parties is required before intervention; secondly, negotiation persuasion are to be used instead of violence; thirdly, only the UN Security Council may give orders to the Peacekeeping Forces; fourthly, all member nations of the UN must financially support the forces.
