Aung San Suu Kyi (1945- )

Awarded the Prize “for her non-violent struggle for democracy human rights.”

Myanmar politician. Aung San Suu Kyi was born in June 19, 1945 in Yangon, Myanmar. In 1967 she took her B.A. in philosophy, politics economics at St. Hugh’s College, Oxford University. She was a Visiting Scholar of the Center of Southeast Asian Studies at Kyoto University during 1985 to 1986 became a Fellow in Indian Institute of Advanced Studies at Simla in 1987. She returned Myanmar in 1988 joined the compaign against dictatorship for the restoration of democracy. She was arrested in 1989 later released but confined to her residence.
