International Campaign to Ban Lmines, ICBL (1992- )

Awarded the Prize “for its work for the banning clearing of anti-personnel mines.”

An international organization established in 1992 to ban the production, delivery, stockpiling, deployment of antipersonnel l mines. The initiators are: Hicap International, Human Rights Watch, Medico International, Mines Advisory Group, Physicians for Human Rights, Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation. ICBL has defined itself as a flexible network of organizations that share common objectives. Today, this network represents over 1,000 human rights, humanitarian, children’s, peace, veteran’s, medical, development, arms control, religious, environmental, women’s groups in over 60 ries.
