Jody Williams (1950- )

Awarded the Prize “for her work for the banning clearing of anti-personnel mines.”

American politician. Williams was born on October 9, 1950. She took her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont in 1972, a Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish ESL from the School for International Training, Vermont in 1976, a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in 1984. From 1986 to 1992, she developed directed humanitarian relief projects as the deputy director of the Los Angeles-based Medical Aid for El Salvador. From 1984 to 1986, she was co-coordinator of the Nicaragua-Honduras Education Project, leading fact-finding delegations to the region.  She is the founding coordinator of the International Campaign to Ban Lmines in 1992.
