The Nobel Peace Prize 2007 was awarded jointly to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. "for their efforts to build up disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to eract such change"

The panel was established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), two organizations of the United Nations.It is a scientific intergovernmental body tasked with reviewing assessing the most recent scientific, technical socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understing of climate change. It provides the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of climate change its potential environmental socio-economic consequences, notably the risk of climate change caused by human activity.
