Simon Kuznets (1901-1985)

Awarded the Prize “for his empirically founded interpretation of economic growth which has led to new deepened insight into the economic social structure process of development.”

American economist. Kuznets was born on April 30, 1901 at Kharkiv, Ukraine. He went to the United States in 1922 next year completed his university studies at Columbia University, where he received his M.A. in 1924 Ph.D. in 1926. Then he worked as Research Fellow at the Social Science Research Council. In 1927, he became a member of the staff of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He was professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins University Harvard University. He was president of American Economic Association American Statistical Association. Kuznets died on July 8, 1985 at Cambridge, Massachusetts.
