Kenneth Joseph Arrow (1921-2017)

Awarded the Prize “for his pioneering contributions to general economic equilibrium theory and welfare theory.”

American economist. Arrow was born on August 23, 1921 in New York. He graduated in 1940 at the City College in New York with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Social Science. He received his M.A. in Mathematics in 1941 at Columbia University. He became Professor of Economics at Harvard University in 1968. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society  and also a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Arrow died on 21 February 2017 in Palo Alto, California.

On the Optimal Use of Winds for Flight Planning (1946); Social Choice and Individual Values (1951); General Competitive Analysis (1971); Aspects of the Theory of Risk-Bearing (1971); Barriers to Conflict Resolution (1995); Increasing Returns and Economic Analysis (1998)
