Tjalling Charles Koopmans (1910-1985)

Awarded the Prize “for his contributions to the theory of optimum allocation of resources.”

American economics. Koopmans was born on August 28, 1910 in s-Gravel, the Netherls. He graduated from the University of Utrecht in 1933 took his Ph.D. at the University of Leiden in 1936. He went to the United States in 1940 took up a post as a statistician for the British Merchant Shipping Mission in Washington. He was professor did research at the University of Chicago, Yale University Stanford University. Koopmans died on February 26, 1985 at New Haven, Connecticut.
