James E. Meade (1907-1995)

Awarded the Prize “for his pathbreaking contribution to the theory of international trade international capital movements.”

British economist. Meade was born on June 23, 1907 at Swanage, Dorset, Engl. He graduated from Oriel College, Oxford in 1930. From 1931 to 1937, he was a Fellow Lecturer in Economics at Hertford College, Oxford. In 1947 he became Professor of Commerce at the London School of Economics. In 1957 he moved to the chair of Political Economy in Cambridge. In1967 he became a Senior Research Fellow of Christ’s College, Cambridge. Meade died on December 22, 1995 in Cambridge.
