Herbert A. Simon (1916-2001)

Awarded the Prize “for his pioneering research into the decision-making process within economic organizations.”

American economist. Simon was born on June 15, 1916 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated in 1936 gained his Ph.D. in 1943 from the University of Chicago. He held the post of Director of Administrative Measurement Studies at the Bureau of Public Administration of the University of California from 1939 to 1942, in which year he moved to the Illinois Institute of Technology, becoming Professor of Political Science there in 1947. In 1949 Professor Simon was appointed Professor of Administration Psychology at the Carnegie Mellon University, becoming Professor of Computer Science Psychology in 1955. Simon died on Feburary 9, 2001 in Pittsburg Pittsburgh,?Pennsylvania, USA.
