Sir Arthur Lewis (1915-1991)

Awarded the Prize “for his pioneering research into economic development research with particular consideration of the problems of developing ries.”

American economist. Lewis was born on January 23, 1915 at Castries, St. Lucia. He received his university education at the London School of Economics where he took his Ph.D. in 1940. In 1948 he was made a full professor at the University of Manchester. He was appointed Professor of Public International Affairs at Princeton University in 1963. Lewis died on June 15, 1991 in Bridgetown, Barbados.
