Trygve Haavelmo (1911-1999)
Awarded the Prize “for his clarification of the probability theory foundations of econometrics his analyses of simultaneous economic structures.”Norwegian economist. Haavelmo was born on December 13, 1911 at Skedsmo, Norway. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Oslo in 1941. In 1933 he was made Research Assistant at Institute of Economics, the University of Oslo in 1938 Lecturer in Statistics at University of Aarhus. From 1946 to 1947 he became Researcher at Cowles Commission of University of Chicago from 1948 to 1979 Professor of Economics at University of Oslo. In 1957 he held the post of President of the Econometric Society, Norway. Haavelmo died on July 28, 1999 in Oslo, Norway.
