Robert E. Lucas Jr. (1937-2023)

Awarded the Prize “for having developed applied the hypothesis of rational expectations, thereby having transformed macroeconomic analysis deepened our understing of economic policy.”

American economist. Lucas was born on September 15, 1937 at Yakima, Washington State. In 1959 he got his B.A. at the University of Chicago, in 1964 his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. He taught at the University of Chicago at Carnegie-Mellon University. In 1980, he became John Dewey Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago. He was Second Vice-President of Econometric Society. Dr. Lucas passed away on May 15, 2023 in Chicago, USA.
