Amartya Kumar Sen (1933- )
Awarded the Prize “for his contributions to welfare economics.”Indian economist. Sen was born on November 3, 1933 at Santiniketan, India. He received his B.A. from the Presidency College at Calcutta in 1953. He got his B.A. in 1955, his M.A. in 1959 his Ph.D. in 1959 at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was Professor of Economics at the University of London, Professor of Economics at Oxford University, Fellow of Nuffield College, Drummond Professor of Political Economy at Oxford University, Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford. Now he is Lament University Professor, Professor of Economics of Philosophy at Harvard University. Since 1998, he has been Master of Trinity College, Cambridge.
